In the heart of the Douro Valley, where vineyards shape the landscape and the river sets the rhythm of time, there is a responsibility that goes far beyond creating memorable experiences. For us, caring for the Douro means caring for our home.
Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Douro is not just a destination – it is a unique ecosystem, a cultural and natural legacy that deserves to be preserved with respect, awareness, and commitment. Within this context, sustainability becomes an essential part of who we are.
Over the past years, Pipadouro has been strengthening more conscious and responsible practices, integrating sustainability into every detail of our experiences. On board, we implement waste separation and recycling, continuously working to reduce waste while prioritizing eco-friendly, organic, and locally sourced products, as well as partners who share our values.
Our approach goes beyond the obvious. We believe sustainability is also about proximity: knowing the origin of what we serve, respecting seasonality, and valuing what is local. With this in mind, we created our own aromatic garden, where we grow herbs that are thoughtfully incorporated into our menus, enhancing authenticity and deepening the connection to the land.
Every day, we work to minimize the impact of our operations, fully aware that it is the consistent, small actions that ultimately make a meaningful difference.
Throughout our journeys, we began collecting the cork stoppers used on board. Each cork represents a moment, a conversation, a celebration, a memory lived in the Douro.
From this simple gesture, an idea was born: to give them a new life. To gather these corks and, over time, transform them into Pipadouro pieces, objects that carry the stories of those who have been part of our journey.
Now, we want to go further. We want to involve those who are part of our story.
If you have corks from special moments in the Douro, we invite you to bring them to our pier. We will integrate them into this project and, each year, shape a new piece.
More than reusing, we aim to create something meaningful.
Because, in the end, protecting the Douro means ensuring it continues to inspire today and tomorrow, and preserving the stories that live within it.
